Default stern live well

I own a 1978 Sceptre. The only thing I don't like about it is the stern live well/bait tank. I don't fish much. The fact that I would guess that it holds around 10 to 20 gallons of water. This is just un need weight and extra water just sitting there. What I want to do is install the plug and also install a pump for water that gets in from the transom. Has anyone else addressed this problem. CHAZ

Welcome Chaz to Classic Seacraft

I know the live well in the outboard model is 30 gals. You model should be similar. To install a pump out for the live well you will have to remove it's cover in the motor well area. Screws and chaulk is all that holds it tight. Then you will need to remove the battery inspection deck hatch in front of the engine splash well. (I'm assuming you still have this configuration) A 500 gph pump will work fine. You need to drill from the inside of the bait tank at the bottom towards the bow using a paddle bit the diameter of the pump's threaded pipe. You then can mount the pump accessing the outside of the tank thru the battery inspection hatch. I would not use 5200 as removing it should it fail in the future would be difficult. 4200 will surfice. Then you need to run a thru hull out the side under one of the rear bilge vents. Wiring the pump to a switch and closing up the baitwell's drain and overflow holes and you should be good to go

Also you can use the "Search Function" to reads many "how to" threads
