Default Gel-Coat color match

I have a white/ivory/whatever 88 SC hull that I need to do some gelcoat patch work on. Does anyone know what the best way to match it. I know there are some gelcoat co's on the web, but I haven't been able to find the specific year/manufacture.
Thanks,
John

Hi John,

I had Ed M. replace the core in a hatch. He brought the hatch to a local boat yard and he "matched the hatch" in a pint of gelcoat.

Do you have a local boat yard that may be interested? If a few $$,(or a case of beer!! )it may be worth it?

Just a thought .... - Nick

Matching gelcoat on an older boat that has faded is definitely one of the hardest things to do. ON my first attempt, I added too much tint and the gelcoat turned a greenish. So, like Nick said, I took his hatch to my friend who matched it perfectly in about 10 minutes.

If you can't find someone to match it...supposedly MiniCraft offers gelcoat matching for $75. Basically, you ship them a hatch cover or whatever...and they ship you back gelcoat that matches. Never done it myself though...

John...hows the transom/bracket coming ??

AS Ed said ...I haven't done it yet but have talked with them for when I do need it to match my color...My case they said they would need a 1" x 1" square and could match it 99.9%
