Default Pics ..CSC Flying Cloud, Atlantic City NJ 9/18/04

A few photos from the Flying Cloud, Atlantic City 9/19/04
Weather wasn’t the "nicest" ….But that didn’t matter ….These are SeaCraft’s ….They love this stuff !!!!
Despite the weather We Had A Blast !!!

PipeDream’s (Don) boat , Sheila B… Don’s on the boat, Joe R next then me ….Amazing for a boat that is almost 40 years old !!!

Hey who did your arch ??

Don had the Bling Bling lights on for the picture …. Still disappointed you didn't have the chirp chirp thing going …maybe next year

Joe R and the Susie II
Joe had a long, tough trip to the Cloud, looked like he even took a few over the bow …
All kidding aside … Great looking boat Joe

Finster’s (Crocket) boat ….
She made it !!! Finster gets the award for the quickest resurrection of a Classic SeaCraft …. That boat was left in a yard by the prior owner to seemingly just fade away into SeaCraft history. That would have been real sad. As Chris has mentioned this is one of something like 20 SeaVettes that were ever manufactured .. Talk about a true classic.

The registration stickers indicate that the boat hadn’t seen water in years. I think two and a half days were spent pulling her together, including re-coring the fuel deck hatch!!! The engine, well it never ceased to amaze. Little was done in the way of servicing the engine... Real basic stuff yet it preformed incredibly well….I think at 3500rpm’s we were cruising along real nice at 28.5 mph with a full tank of gas….In real nasty tight chop. Of course the batteries went south when we tried to get a speed at WOT...GPS or not "We's was FLYING !!!!!"

I like Don’s suggestion for the boat name ….Handel It … Not even going there

Umm …. Where in the world was Otto ?? Don ...did you push him in the water???

The trip over wasn’t bad at all …about a 15 mile?? boat ride…wind was east about 15-20. As we neared the Flying Cloud / Atlantic City it was strange as there were somewhat bright skies and even a burst of sun…… Lots of wind and filling in as the day went on. When we left things got ugly....the wind had really picked up out of the NE easy 30 mph+ and the sky was looking real dismal …..

Heading home …. This was the smooth part of the trip back …. Except for the wind and driving, pelting rain, it felt like hail !!….Wind was intense …later found out that NOAA had posted Gale warnings !!!!

I had a feeling this would come in handy …. One of my better shots

I knew things were going to get interesting !! The hood got cinched down even tighter about 10 minuets later

Yeah …. We don’t need no stinking foul weather gear !!!! Capt asked "Why ya bringing foul weather gear??" when we left ….think he was glad he found some !!!!!!

No that aint no smile on his face

A few more pics later ….one is a real CSC gem !!

GLAD you guys made it back O.K. I got to my slip and saw the rain comming. made it to the car dry and let the rain wash the boat,,,All kidding aside, it was great talking with you guys, and seeing your boats. WE all pushed this gathering and hoped more boats would show but the weather held every one back. I give you Guys Credit for running over in that mess...Hope we can have another get together next year pos. early in the summer...Joe R.

Yeah it was a kick'n ride home.... I got hammered on the same section of Absecon Bay. I had more rain blowing in the back of the boat then I was taking over the bow. After losing 30 mintues trying to get them to open the Beach Bridge, close due to high winds..lol.. I was able to drop the riggers and antennas and slip under with a RCH clearence.. GE inlet crossing was another story -4'-6' with 3'-4' rebounding off the rocks. I would see the bridge every 3rd wave that didn't break over the bow (note bow rider floor drain needs to be bigger) BR section filled with about 10" of water during the crossing. After that it was smooth sailing. Only other thing was, I though Iblew the lower unit, because I was cruising at 4400 and she would turn up to 5200 without touching the control, after this happend a few times ,I was able to locate the problem.. a 40mpg gust up the back of the boat..

As Scott said "it's SeaCraft weather" as we're being pelted with what felt like marbles, heading right into it, give'n her the rebel yell.

I do recall saying saying something at the dock before we left AC that I started to regret mid voyage........"bring it on". Duh.

Hey Don, let's look in the farmers almanac to find the crappiest day for next year.

I was thinking the same thing myself. Maybe hard to top that day. I remembered Scott's quote about it being Sea Craft weather as I was able to get a 15 second glance at the brigde be for the next 5 footer washed over the boat leaving and another few inches of water in the boat. But O'l Mosley had one hell of an idea. Yes, she is a wet boat but it never pounded... YEEEEEEEE-HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA....

Don .. you must have gotten good fuel mileage

I don’t think Chris and I would have fared to well had we been in the Aquasport … That would have been a long long hard ride home. Our biggest problem wasn’t the sea state … the boat took care of that… it was that friggin’ driving rain. Guess we needed goggles or scuba masks !!!

We were running in protected water here ... just wind and rain. After this the camera stayed down below when it got sloppy …. Need one of those waterproof bags for it next time

Hey Pat ….Sorry you had to miss it …

Next years prize for longest run needs to be something like a top with full enclosure, foul weather gear, and radar !!!

Sounds like you guys had some fun with the weather. I wanted to come down, but was busy on Long Island buying my Seafari! I had to pull off the road for a while, the rain was so heavy. But then I got back to Nantucket and talked with a friend who was out fishing off the east side of the island when a black squall came through with sudden 75 mph gusts and 15' breaking seas. These guys (and girls) are all long time offshore experienced, and now they're talking about taking up golf!!! Apparently they almost lost the boat (30' CC) getting back to the harbor. Yikes!

Hopefully I'll make it to the next gathering in my perfectly restored (yeah right!) 20' Seafari!

Rockdoc, congrats on the Seafari, we'll look foward to seeing it next year.
Now that you've obligated yourself to the next gathering there's no going back on it.......like some others we know who shall go nameless for now.
