Thanks all.

This is all great stuff.

I have been in the dark until now. I found this website today by luck. Glad I did.

JohnB:

Thanks for the photos. If you dont mind me asking, how much did you pay and was the hardtop included?

Steve:

Thanks for the heads up. This will save me a trip this weekend.

Here are some other considerations in my favor.

I am a marine mechanic by training, now an engineer, my cousin owns a local merc dealership here on Long Island. The optimax I undersand had many problems from 2000 on. This engine will be under warranty until July 2003. I may add an extended warranty if available.

Question:

Since I have small kids with a wife that lets me do less than nothing and I have been down the road of fixer uppers. Do I buy a new boat say SportCraft for example, make an offer on the 1987 boat or do nothing for now and wait until something comes along.

Your thoughts. Ultimately it is my decision.

PS what price would be fare for the 1987.

Thanks all.

Steve:

Thanks

If the boat and motor were in excellent condition with no trailer and full electonics:

What do you think the breakdown would be for boat and motor.

Meanwhile keep an eye for a 23 Sceptre. I would not mind completely rigging the boat included new motor. Prefer not to have to paint or glass work if at all possible. Gas tank is also not a problem. I just did want to make this into a complete restoration project.

Thanks for your help.

All,
Thanks for the comments. This is the first SeaCraft boat that I have owned so I
don't have alot of history and experiance to draw from. Alot of the hardware has
been replaced since I got the boat. Until a few years ago, it was only used in the
summertime in Long Island. I pulled up and re-seacocked and plumped everything
under the deck. The wiring was pretty suspect too from corrosion. I have fixed
everything that I know is broke or suspect. The 250 EFI merc seems like a good
fit for the boat. I bought the boat as it appears in the pictures. I have already
upgraded the seating, electronics, and 100 little things that were not quite to my liking.
I gave 10K for the boat (98 Merc with 125 hours on it). Put a great trailer underneath
it and had the motor completly checked out with all upgrades and maintenance. I probably have about 13-14K into it as it stands. The transom had some poorly
cut/sealed scullpers, and I dried it out and sealed it up. There was no signs of rot
or weekness, just 30-40% water penetration around the affected areas with a
moisture meter. The long term plan is to close the transom and put on a positive floatation bracket.
BTW, my daughter isn't smiling because we got up at 5:00AM on a sat morning and
rode 2.5 hours to look at yet another boat. She was still 1/2 asleep.
It looks like most of the boats on this forum are center console layouts. I also own
a 22 foot Center Console (not seacraft), and have fished out of it for 10 years. The
only question I had when I bought the boat was if I would like fishing out of it vs the
center console. So far, it has been great to fish from. I frequently fish with my kids,
and the Sceptre layout keeps them close at hand, and the cockpit/cabin is great to get
away from the elements.
TRS2000, let us know how you make out,
Finally, get a professional marine survey on anything you buy unless it is a project boat, even then, I would get one done.
