Raw water pickup location ?
I want to install a washdown/livewell system, and was wondering where you guys have your pickup located.I was going to put a bronze pickup through the bottom, but don't want to cause any turbulance that will affect the prop, how far off center do I have to be to ensure no interference, or is there a better way?

HA BILLIEBOB
I HAVE THE 23’ WITH THAT BIG LIVE WELL THAT SAT AGAINST THE TRANSOM THE MANUFACTURER (POTTER BUILT) HAD INSTALLED THE THROUGH HULL SCOOP DIRECTLY INSIDE THE LIVE WELL. I REMOVED THAT LIVE WELL WHEN I RE DID THE TRANSOM BUY I STILL USED THE HOLE THEY USED FOR THE NEW SCOOP. IT IS LOCATED ABOUT 12” FROM THE TRANSOM AND ABOUT 12” FROM THE CENTER LINE ON THE PORT SIDE OF THE BOAT. FELLOW-SHIP |

BILLYBOB:
My pick up is about 4' from the stern/ 26" from the c-line. behind that is my ground plate. I put those there so i could get to my ball value to shut it off when not in use. The 8' deck plate for that is just in front of the splash well. also my two b-pumps are right there. so when i need to clean out down below every thing is in reach. no hunting for nutin. P>S one thing to watch for is the rollers on your trailer. see where they sit when the boat is on it. [ April 23, 2002, 07:01 PM: Message edited by: steve ] |

Mine is also in the live well .... But I did not think it was an install that SeaCraft did because of how it was installed. I dont know how your boat is set up but here's my set up. The port side of the livewell follows the bottom contour of the hull. Under the live well is about 1" of space between the inside of the hull and the underside of the livewell. Someone filled this area with a resin mixture to make it solid. By doing this it also blcked the hole in the stringer that allows water on the port side of the stringer to flow/drain to the other side so that half of the boat is always wet....The thru hull fitting went through this resin fill...Also my thru hull has two holes one as a pickup the other as a drain (with the boats forward motion). I plan on filling those holes and placing a thru hull in the area that Steve talks about....under that hatch that has the two 8" access plates. Anyone know of a good pump that will last more than a season....that has some decent pressure?? [ April 23, 2002, 11:59 PM: Message edited by: Scott ] |

Re: Raw water pickup location ?
Thanks guys, I guess I'm safe going outboard in the bilge,I want to mount my seacock under that 8" plate too.I don't have any drain in that center stringer either so the water stays on either side, but I don't want to drill thru that stringer so I think I'll just add a second bilge pump.As far a washdown pump, there was a good thread on the WMI board a while back. The consensus was that Shurflo are junk, the Jabsco par4 have held up pretty well, and the Groco look to be the best.

Re: Raw water pickup location ?
Billybob...I've heard the same about Shurflo.
Anyone have experience with that Groco washdown system...that goes for about $250-300???. I've heard some positive about it.....but seems a little steep to get your deck wet.... If I'm going to put another hole in the bottom of this thing I want to make sure its going to put some serious water on the deck.... and I do have to admit that when things got real messy on the Big Boats a good old 2 1/2 gal bucket with a rope on it did a pretty good job....shoulder would occasionally get tugged on pretty good but hey thats fishing for ya!!
