T-Top height. Mine was shortened and I want to extend it
Hey Guys. I just brought home my 72 Seacraft SF from Oregon yesterday. Not sure the neighbors are too excited about it though!
The previous owner, a friend of mine, cut down the T-Top before he installed it and I want to extend it. I am 6'2" and my head hits the outside rim and I almost knocked myself out from the rod holders, which are even lower. He said he thinks he cut it down so the center mount would attach to the center console. Instead of buying a new one I am just going to extend the four legs. The holes won't line up again so I was thinking of using a longer plate on the bottom to make the old holes work. Not sure about that part though. With the new height the center rail will extend past the top of the console, which I think is ok with me. He also extended the length of the top with more aluminum so the plexi could be back farther for more protection from the wind. So, how tall is the normal T-Top? Thanks |

Wow, that does look short.
If you're taking the t-top off the boat for modification, why not have them extend the legs on the topside, as opposed to the bottom? Then the feet and the center mount will still line up. A competent welding shop should be able to handle that. The T-top I took off my Seacraft was 78" from the deck to the bottom of the overhead electronics box, and another 8" to the top tubing itself, for an overall height of 86".

Thanks Zachary. That height sounds more like it! Is that to the center or the outside rail?
Thanks for the tip on extending it too. I can do that but it will require 6-8 extensions instead of 4. It also has the angles up high so something will have to move or bend to make it work there too. Thanks, Keith |

That measurement is to the center, basically above the helmsman's head.
After looking at your pictures more closely, I see what you mean, about the legs. There's a lot more going on there than just the four legs going top to bottom! Would be more complicated to extend, but I'm not sure any more or less complicated than reconfiguring the feet layout etc. etc. Guess it depends on your fabricator.
