a boring 10 second video and some sushi
Just got back from an 11 day fishing trip(1st of the season)for salmon.Spent several days with mechanical issues. The stars must have all been aligned perfectly against me those days, because all kinds of problems arose.
It's hard to believe so many things would go at once. *Engine(5.7 350 I/O) overheats *Bad impeller in the outdrive *Overheats again, bad thermostat *Engine starts running rough, bad distributor cap *Find oil all over the ignition coil replaced that *spun the engine to drive coupler(ouch, big bucks) *Spun the hub in the prop *oil pressure sending unit failed *Brand new digital Trollmaster kicker speed control defective *Hit the dock on the stbd.side backing in the wind, big chunk out of the transom corner *Trailer wheel brake locked up,would'nt budge B.O.A.T. = Break out another thousand.nothing could be more true We were able to manage a few good days fish wise however.no real good pictures but here's a couple, along with a stupid shamless 10 second video of us heading in. If you click on this link below the senseless video should load http://s2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/...tario027-1.mp4

Thems some good eats there. Looks like she was running fine in the video. Was that after all the fixes? I'm ripping out the I/O in my little 20 sceptre right now. Outboard and bracket? Will want to talk with you some day about down riggers...you look like the down rigger king

Nice job John. The fish is facing the wrong way for a south paw. :P
Looks like the weather was decent at least for one day.

Strick,
yes, that was after the fixes, but is was with a spare aluminum prop which isn't the right diameter and pitch, but it got us through the week. When I'm running the Mirage SS it scoots along better.I was around 3400 rpms, and 25mph in the video. With the Mirage,I'd be able to do that speed at about 3100 rpms.Top speed would also be better and wot/max rpms would be right on. Downriggers,I've run just about every make of them over the last 35 years. The ones on the boat now are Scottys and were a new brand to me 3 yrs ago.Took a bit to get used to them as they look different than all the brands, but you get a lot of bang for the buck with them. All the major brands are good, much boils down to personal preference.I'd be more than happy to help in any way I can regarding downriggers. ************************************************** ** Rod, actually we had ten straight days of perfect weather. We were able to run offshore, out to the canadian line 15-20 miles several days(when it was running well). It was great whacking the steelhead 12' down over 500' of water. You know how that is,the fish is in the air several times before the line is out of the release. Go figure,10 days of perfect weather but could only fish about five of them because of mechanical problems. If the boat was perfect, the weather would have turned to crap,ya can't win.The last day we got blown off.We fished in the am for a few hours, east wind came and it went downhill from there.Trying to troll into 4 footers close together and keep speed gets old real quick.
