And so it begins, 72' CC 20'
Hey guys, thanks for the advice on my real world #'s thread over in general. I wanted to start this thread, because being a newbie I'm sure I'll have 100's of questions for you. The plan is to raise the deck, put in new scuppers out the side, foam in new tank, CC, leaning post, maybe T-Top, paint and of course the 140 Zuke.

Can you guys see the pics? I thought if I hosted them on photobucket, and used the image URL it would work.

Re: And so it begins, 72' CC 20'
Ok, thanks guys.
I don't know if you can see, but the port side stringer is cracked, it looks like it was patched, but I was going to glass in heavy mat on the top. I did drill into the stringers and they are mostly dry, there is a small amount of moisture in the foam I took out, but it seems to be minimal. |

Its amazing all the holes drilled into the tops of those stringers. No wonder decks get rotted out. Looks like you have a real nice boat for a restoration project. Cant wait to see the progress.

Re: And so it begins, 72' CC 20'
It is my understanding that the foam was used for a form to build the stringers around. Knowing what I know now I would dig all that foam out and just glass over the top. Did you dig all the way through the foam to the hull? If not you will probably find a lot of moisture at the bottom.

Re: And so it begins, 72' CC 20'
I did drill all the way to the fiberglass, very minimal moisture so I think it's ok.
One question, I'm walking around this thing, and the sides seem so flimsy compared to my old Aquasport. Is this normal? |

Re: And so it begins, 72' CC 20'
Yep, sides are pretty thin, they sprayed some foam in between the liner and the hull to help with floatation and it sorta helped keep the sides stiffer, but with age it comes away from the hull, there is also a fore and aft stiffner bout mid way up from console aft on the hull sides, other than that, what you feel is what you get, unless of course you rip the liner out and core the hull.

Re: And so it begins, 72' CC 20'
Ok, some of the foam has separated from the hull and the liner, I did buy some 2lb foam, I think I'll refoam it. It will at least make me feel better about it.
Thanks! |
