Motor problem on maiden voyage
So I put her in the water for the first time on Saturday. At first the motor wouldn't pee... but I ran a piece of wire leader up the pee hole and cleared out some trash. After that it worked fine.
The big issue started after I got past the no-wake zone and gave her the gas. Up to 1/4 throttle it worked fine. Beyond that, a big vibration started.... almost like heavy cavitation (but I don't think it was cavitation). It would never really rev up above about 2200 RPM. I went to half and then full throttle and it just vibrated and wouldn't pick up steam. I ended up turning around and (after waiting in line for 45 minutes at the ramp) putting her back on the trailer. Once we got back home, I hooked up the water hose and ran it. There was no vibration, but the motor never really seemed to produce power beyond 1/4 to 1/3 throttle. It just doesn't rev. Also, it started giving me some kind of audible alarm, only when giving medium to full throttle. Not sure if it a low fuel flow alarm or what. The motor is a 2000 Suzuki DT140 fuel injected/oil injected 2-stroke. The fuel tank, fuel lines, fuel filter are all new. It has fresh gas. I was thinking that maybe the filter located at the reservoir near the fuel injection system is clogged. I haven't had a chance to open it up yet. Ideas? I sure am frustrated!

Re: Motor problem on maiden voyage
Sounds like it's running on 3 cylinders, classic misfire under load. Maybe a bad coil. Pull the plugs and look for one that's black/heavily oil fouled, then check spark on that cyl. while cranking. Spark should jump about a 1/2" gap (don't hold on to the wire while doing that! )

Re: Motor problem on maiden voyage
I believe the trouble you are having is over heating. The audible is part of the safe system.Check your thermostats, water pump and make sure it pees like an 18 year old.g
Good luck.
