Default cracking transom questions

well, I am back. Made it thru the hoidays w/ a little extra cash. So I am ready to burn it up.
First. I have a 72 20 S.F.( it's been some time since my last post). I purchased 7 months ago and in need of lots of TLC, My pics are somewhere down the line of threads I think under a differnt heading.
Second.. I thought I had and may still a cracking transom. After some exploration it looks as if it has been modified and raised and the cracking is coming from this modification. I have a 25 inch shaft motor with a jack plate which I assumed was to make up for the 5 inch difference. The added piece to the transom notch measures 7 1/4 from original transom.
My question is would this be enough to compensate for the long shaft. What should I measure from top of notch to center of boat. I am at 28 inches. The previous owner added the jack plate and a big SS plate on transom for support.????? I know I am supposed to include pics and will try to add tomorrow, I just wanted to throw this out to the forum for ideas and opinions.
Thanks
