Default Volvo Diesel I/O

Does anyone have any info on the Volvo Penta D3 engine series with the composite outdrive? The Volvo web site has performance info on the engines, but I can't find anything on the outdrive. Most of the other diesel packages are too heavy...my '74 SF 23 already seems a little stern heavy with the Merc 5.7L/Alpha setup (approx. 950#). Anybody out there running a diesel I/O?

The new generation diesels are comparable in weight to thier gasoline counterparts. Some diesels are lighter. For example, my Grady White had twin Mercruiser 470 (3/7 litre) I/O's. I repowered to twin Cummins Mercruiser 1.7 DTI's, and package weight per engine (motor plus I/O) was actually about 30 pounds less per engine.

Volvo makes nice diesels, check out Yanmar and Cummins-Mercruiser as well.

Sportdog, go to 25Bertram.com and read the entries there. Many B25 and B20 owners have switched to the D3 series motors and are very satisfied with them. Some have even posted performance numbers that are very interesting. If I had the $$ that's definitely the way I would go.

Just a silly question but why diesel, the number for the motor in the other post was 18K for the 190.
