I'd stay away from the Merc 2.5L EFI motors too . . . All the carb motors are fine. EFI's seem to have a higher failure rate from what I've seen and heard from dealers/mechanics/rebuilders. EFI also have some expensive parts to replace if you have issues. Of course can always swap the intake from EFI to carb if you had issues and the motor didn't self destruct. Ed's still has brand new Yamaha 150 2 strokes for $7500!!! |

So a 2001 200 EFI would be the older style without the problematic o-ring head?

Muddy - Just look at the heads and it will give it away. The change happened right around that time 2001/2002. The block is the same . . . just has different heads with rubber orings instead of head gaskets. They don't seem to hold up as well as head gaskets.
