Trim/Tilt Pump on 225 Mercury

compared to my old 18SF with a very light 130 Yami, my 23SF sits as good or better with regard to the scuppers. Each motor is around 445 lbs (carbs) and the bracket offers very little floatation. I leave my plugs out most of the time.

Pulled the boat out to do some work on her. Another question-I planned on filling this res. pump due to low fluid, and now all I get is just a bunch of clicking sounds. I heard that there is a solenoid that may be dead and to pull the unit and connect the Trim/Tilt pump directly to power and see if it is just the solenoid. The motor is stuck down, can I gently jack the motor up with a floor jack to get access??

yes if you open the releif valve. its on the starboard side of the mounting bracket under the trim pump. all you need is a big flat head screw driver.

Danny, If you have a clicking sound chances are its the solenoid. I would definitely check your battery connections and make sure they are absolutely clean. If you have 2 batts use some jumpers and see if 24 volts cures your ills. I can get you parts for cheep. My 19999 60hp Suzuki clicks while trying to raise the motor if the battery is discharged partially. Also since you have twins you can switch the solonoids.

The clicking noise you hear is the solenoid..
Raise the motor by loosing the bleed screw.
Take a hammer and tap on the motor while pressing
the up/down button. Chances are if the case on the
motor is rusted, then water got in it and seized up.

Thanks for the responses..........Ken-The case is rusted and may be toast, what's the cost of a new pump? Brian-The idea to swap pumps to test is a good one. Blue-Thx for the relief valve comment.

i dont think you need a pump. i just had the same thing happen to me. i changed out the motor and have been fine ever since. i would look ebay or screamandfly.com for a trim motor.

I think your solinoids are the same as mine? - they are right between the 2 cylinder banks - the top is down bottom is up and you will probably hear it click - take a screw driver hit the up switch and just cross the 2 large terminals and it will come up - they are cheap although there are only a couple, the correct one will have rubber grommets on the mounting plate - $52 - buy the one without grommits $29 use your grommets to mount it simple - a Merc dealer will be able to get the solinoid for that motor without grommets - I think they are Mercruisers and grommet style for outboards. NAPA has them too but the Sierra I bought only lasted a year.

We tested it last light and it is the trim motor. Thx again Blue and ESD. Off to search out that part........
