Re: 20 SF Restoration
It looks like it is coming along pretty fast if you just bought it a year ago. How did you do the gel coat? It seems like everybody has a different method. Did you use Duratec or Patch-Aid? Did you thin with acetone, MEK, or something else? How much sanding did it take, what kind of compressor did you use, and did you use a gel-coat gun with the paper cups, a gravity feed gun, a HVLP gun, or something else? Did you put wax in the last coat or spray with PVA or ??? Thanks!!!

Re: 20 SF Restoration
I lurked this board for a long time learning as much as I could. After I started this boat I asked alot of questions to the guys at a fiberglass supply store in Sarasota. They helped guide me through.
I used all biaxial fiberglass. I did have to do a ton of sanding. The seams that overlap had to be sanded. The fiberglass place reccomended rolling the gell coat opposed to spraying so I went that route. I did not have to thin. The quality of thier gell coat was great. I did roll multiple layers to get a nice build up. I was told not to use gell coat with wax added because it could come out tacky but the supply store had thier own brand and they assured me it would come out nice. I tried it and I could not be happier. My biggest advise to anyone is take your time sanding and preparing everything and it will turn out better than you might expect. |

Re: 20 SF Restoration
I bought a new leaning post this weekend. I could not wait to see what everything looked like in the boat so I started to install.
