Default 2001 21 seacraft with a 300 verado?

Anyone done this? Problems? Performance numbers?

Why mess around with a lousy, slow, heavy 300 Verado, just get the 400R and be done with it.

Twin 7 627`s and be done with this.

I know of an old 23 that was cut down to a 21 and runs only 50 with a 300 yamahoo.

The transom is only 25" and you want to put 700lbs on the back? there are better power options for the 21. See what comes out tomorrow from Merc at the miami show.

If you fish around on this site you'll find plenty of standard info for 20's, not too much for 21's. So if we are talking 20's, mine is unmodified 74 with a 94 Evinrude 150, 25" shaft on a 5" static jack plate to compensate for the long shaft short transom match. I max out right at 45 MPH (trimmed up, half tank, calm day one or 2 people) That boat is moving very nicely then, but with a reasonable repower and an up tick or 3 in HP I could see getting 55mph out of it and thats probably all I am are going to be comfortable with on that hull. I happend to do some reading this week on the same topic on this site and guys were stating that with a 250 on it it would start to chine walk in the low 60's so he couldn't drop the hammer all the way. There is another gentleman that has (had) a 225 on his and runs well. Plus there are 2 youtube videos of a 20's with 225's getting after it, one inshore and the other offshore. There are several 200's but haven't heard or seen much of the numbers from them but most of what you'll find are 20's with 150's. Even that might still be a notch above what you need to run on this boat. But if you are talking about a 300, you aren't talking about "need", you are talking about speed. That being said. I was in Islamorada (middle Florida keys) this summer with my friends 21 Paramount with a 225 on it and this boat "gets it" and low and behold a 20 Seacraft comes ripping by with a 300 on a bracket. I initially was thinking "it must be a 23" But when I caught up to it idling by Robbies, it was clearly a 20. Sat in the water a little low but not as bad as you might think. It had the aura of a square grouper rig about it but the 20 is not quite practical when it comes to deck space for hay bales. Never the less, someone has done it wiht a 300 and I was using all makers on my pile in the Paramount and the Secraft was still making time on me. For my own eventual re-power I currently like the idea of the E-Tec (G1) 200HO but haven't found ant stats on it, or the Yammi F200 4 cylinder, afraid the latter doesn't have the kick I want. I know when I say 55, I really mean 60 so now we are talking 225?.. : ) But look around on the site an use the search engine and you''l find lots of great tidbits from the brain-trust on this site to include different engine stats and prop selection. You just have to do some digging but you learn a lot along the way.
