Thanks for all of the replies, went and looked at the boat today. The engines are indeed fichts but they are the defender series? Dont know if this guy just put the stickers on the cowling or if they are some type of military use engine? Anyone know any more about these? Thanks

Get the motor serial #'s - the call an Evinrude dealer. The dealer will be able too look up the #'s and tell you EXACTLY what the enginesd are.
The OMC 150 and 175's were troublesome motors till 2002 + |

I had 2000 150 fichts on my 23. I used them with no problems for 3-4 years and about 400 hrs. (They had 450 hrs on them when I got the boat with them.) I had one EMM go which was about 700 bucks. My Fichts were great for me. That said, the parts are a fortune and you cant find many mechanics that like to / know how to fine tune issues with them. Annoys me a little when people over state problems with them. Id still stay away from them because of the above.
After having a kid they sat for two years and one engine wasnt right, sputtering. What was a seemingly minor issue, I wasnt willing to lay out the cash to an experienced Ficht guy so I sold them........I only got 2800 bucks for the pair. |

Oh, and the motors were blowing powerheads when new really screwing a lot of guys that invested in new outboards. After getting past the initial horrors and having updates such as new fuel systems, they ran good for many people like the previous owner of my boat and me.
