new 200 E tec vs 1998 225 Suzuki
Im considering repowering my 76 23'Secepter no bracket
The dealer is telling me for the $ that a 200 E-tec will perform as well if not better than the 98 fuel injected Suzuki on my boat now. His reasoning is the net hourse power of the 200 E tec is 220 Hp. Im satisfied with the power output of my 225 Suzuki. Is this a fair comparison? Will I get similar or better performace out a 200 hp E tec? Thanks for your input |

Not really answer to your question but I just put a 300 Etec on my 73 Tsunami (with a bracket). I didn't get enough hours on it at the end of last season to give you any meaningful performance numbers I'm afraid. I'd originally planned to get a 250hp but the incremental cost to go up to 300hp seemed worthwhile at the time. I was replacing an early to mid 90's 225 Merc with triple carbs so it's not really an apples to apples comparison.

Re: new 200 E tec vs 1998 225 Suzuki
Are you looking at a 200 HO (90 degree V-6) or the 200 hp version of the smaller 60 degree V-6? If it's the 90 degree motor, I'd say the 220 hp rating is credible. BRP is sandbagging on the horsepower on a lot of their motors. The "225" is really about 240, and my "150" is really 165 at the prop. They're good motors - have had mine almost 4 years and have had zero problems.

Re: new 200 E tec vs 1998 225 Suzuki
the HO is the same PH as the 250 and add 30HP I'm pretty sure, check the displacement but I think I just read that this week - check at Scream & Fly it was just on there - under Low Emission Outboard section I think. If it is the HO, warn the passengers to hold on, compared to the Zuke. These new DFI motors are very strong compared to EFI's and yes BRP is giving you extra HP in every box LOL
These HO motors are smoking the Merc XS's in AUS in stock condition in their ski racing circuit. they even give them warrenty too sorry that discussion was about 225 vs 250 -

Re: new 200 E tec vs 1998 225 Suzuki
Ya can't kill the E-tecs, I tournament fished and we had the water line come off the nipple on the block, drank saltwater for 2 & 1/2 hrs at close to 50 mph everything uder the cowling got drowned-starter fried only problem. Tournament support pulled the plugs and there was over 1/4 inch salt on each- None of the electronics were affected, they replaced the starter, ran it thru the winterization cycle dumping extra oil, next day finished the tournament no problems, I told my buddy after that, hed better to try to kill it while it was under warranty, that was over 3 years ago, no problems since, it gets run hard in the tournaments-Bullet Proof. I am a believer for sure!
