Seems like I may have found the culprit - loose and/or dirty battery connections. Although to the touch they didn't seem real loose, I guess they were loose enough to cause an issue. However, as I slowed down entering the river back to my mooring, the engine exhibited the problem again around 3000 rpm. I throttled back up, then down again and it did it again. Right after it happened, I checked the fuel bulb and it was soft. Perhaps I have poor fuel flow too?

Scott, you'll need to check your fuel pickup on the tank. A lot of times they put these fine mesh screens on them, and if you have crap in the they can get clogged quit easily. I had a simular problem with the aquasport. I just simply took the screen off and let the "what ever" go into the canister filter. Worked like a charm.

Will the fuel filters TRULY clean out the fuel? If I frequently change the filter and cycle newer gas through? Should be OK? My 3 year old kid will be in collegde by the time the mower sucks through this tank....

Check youur grounding system and it's associated connections. Sounds electrical..
