Default Moving console forward

I'm still in the process of putting the boat back together and I'm trying to decide how far forward to move my console. Right now I'm thinking of moving it about 4" forward wich will leave me about 12" between the seat and the raised deck. Is 4" enough to see any difference in the transom waterline height? Should I move it further and lose walking space between seat and deck? On average how far forward have you guys moved your consoles and did it make a big difference. I'm going to convert the front seat into a 22 gallon (188lbs) well and I have 2 batteries far forward under the console. I have a 1989 20sf.

Thanks,
Javier
