Replacing reed valves - Easy or Hard?
Need some help/opinions on the level of difficulty on replacing the reed valves on a 2 stroke outboard. Specifically a Yamaha 225 V-6.
My outboard experienced friend has suggested that I replace my aging reed valves and sync up my carbs on my 1988 Yamaha to achieve a better idle and low RPM performance. The motor runs great at 2500 rpms and above. The idle is ok, but slighly choppy. The problems start when you put it into gear at low rpms. The motor then runs rougher and is choppy. As you lightly throttle up the motor experiences some dead zones that it just doesn't sound or feel right occationally bogging out and dying. It refires immediately and then does the same thing. If you hammer the throttle after putting it in gear the motor accelarates hard and runs great. It's just the low end performance that is an issue. Any ideas or suggestions/advice on this?
