twins or single on 23 cc with bracket?

I recently purchased a 23 SeaCraft cc and will be doing a complete rebuild this winter. It already has a brand new coosa transom and I will be installing a bracket. My question is, should I go with twin 150's or a single 300? I know both options have pros and cons, but would love to hear some feedback, (ride, attitude, weight, etc.) from some experienced SeaCraft owners. The only reason that I am considering twins is I live in north Florida and it's a long run to the best off shore fishing area (40-60 miles). Thank you very much for your time.

Today's engines (4 strokes) are very reliable. I made many 100mi Bahamas crossings in my 23' with a single 2 stroke with good luck. Always traveled with a buddy boat!

BTW: a single 150hp should you loose one might not get a 23' up on plane.
If you choose a bracket make sure it's a flotation type & if it's a TWIN BRACKET, and you decide on a SINGLE motor later, you have to have a 30" shaft.

I have a '73 23', Hermco bracket, Yamaha 300 4S and a similar run to blue water. I ran the Yamaha OX66 250 for the first 11 years, the 300 for the last 3. I'm ok with the single and the performance is great, satisfactory when fully loaded including full transom bait-well. 118 gal tank and blue water trips allow the 1/3 rule. I think the additional weight of 2 4S would be a bad thing all things considered. If you could find 2 2S, light weight 150's, that would be a lot better. There's a calculator here somewhere that allows Center of Gravity calculations. I strongly suggest you go through that thoroughly with your favorite math whiz including all kinds of different scenarios.

I vote single 300. The few builds I know of with twins regret and replace with a single. Including twin 150 G2's. Light is right on this hull!!!! Even with manipulating the balance, i don't thing it would be feasible to put enough weight forward to compensate. Good luck with the resto. It takes three times as long and twice the budget. So I'm finding out. Also if you are looking for a fiberglass bracket, Stoner Boatworks makes one similar the the Hermco, but with a taller platform to cleat tabs. Check out Cooper Dog on here. He is in Daytona and restoring a 23. He has a console from Competition and a stoner bracket.

Thanks for the replies, I was leaning toward the single 300 on a bracket, just wanted some real world input. I just finished a complete rebuild of a 1988 2200 Biddison wa, installed a stainless marine bracket and mounted a 300 Yamaha 4s turned out very cool. So here we go again, mama said pick one, the seacraft won. looking forward to the project, I'll post some pics of the progress. Thanks again for the feed back
