Default Wiring Pics/Examples on 18'sf

Guys I'm looking for some reference pics of wiring to help me through rewiring My 1980 18'sf. Any below deck shots or under center console or even bilge pumps and engine wiring any thing will help. Im trying to understand the routing and make my rewire as clean as possible.

A couple of thoughts:

Fetch a copy of Nigel Calders Boatowner's Mechanical & Electrical Manual - http://www.barnesandnoble.com/p/boat...clickid=3x2988
You can't beat this price I don't care if its covered in oil and battery acid (i assue you it ain't). Probably available at local public library.

Go to www.Bluesea.com
Look at their blade fuses boxes and their add a battery switch. Read their tutorials. Call them. Excellent company and customer service.

Look at www.genuinedealz.com for tinned wire/cable, terminals, fuses, and heavy cable crimping services. Quality products excellent service and price.

check out the link below for a recent rebuild. Its a 23 i think, but really it's all the same with mild change in switches, circuiter breakers, electronics models, etc.

Assuming the 80 has the same stringer layout, the hole under the console that the rigging goes through is right above the channel formed in the stringer and angles back underneath the starboard access hatch at the transom. That's how mine is. Pretty wide as I had no trouble fishing several wires through. Luckily, I had a couple wires that were going to be removed giving me something already there to fish with. As far as the wiring as shown above, hee hee, mine is a disaster! I'd be ashamed to show it to you guys. ;p Good luck!

I have another question in relation to the above wiring diagrams. Where do the gauges come in to play?? (Oil,speedometer,battery level,etc.) Are they run directly from the Outboard Motor via a harness?? I think if I could figure that out I will be going in the right direction.

There is a professionaly redone 18 located in Jupiter Florida that had a real nice rewirng job done on it. I would look for it and use it for some ideas (hint: google is your friend)

I am a cheap bastard as well. Genuinedealz is a great place to purchase wiring components; however, using there sister site bestboatwire turns out to be cheaper once you go over (+/- $50 bucks I think). Too bad I figured that out after I had already placed my last order!

Newer engines will prob have that in their "premium" gauges or possibly run NEMA to chartplotter

Most older outboards have wiring on their harness to connect gauges. Yours has a 2.5 150 merc so you will have (or need) a sub harness for your gauges. The gauge harness plugs into the main harness that comes up to the key switch. You will have to loop the power (+) and grounds (-) to the gauges but the signal wire to each gauge should come off of the outboard harness. I have a factory manual and can email you the diagram showing the color code for what wire goes to what gauge. You probably can find it online also.

Far as the speedo will connect to a hose off of the lower unit and works off water pressure. They suck and a gps speedo is more accurate. Most speedo kits also come with a rear mounted pick up that goes on the transom to pickup water pressure also (junk as well) I use the speed off the chart plotter but if you want a gauge go for the gps type.
