Default Yamaha F300 or F350?

With summer winding down it's time to start looking at an overhaul of the 1972 23' cc. After a complete rebuild of my 18' sf in 2009, I ended up buying peterB's old 23' from a guy in atlanta. I've fished it for two seasons now off the carolinas and just got back from Big Pine for mini season. The old girl is looking a little rough and I'm starting to think about a refresh this winter. While I do enjoy the old 2 stroke 200 ox66 motors, they are kinda thirsty and I'm starting to get tired of the o2 sensor issues. I'm thinking of selling the pair as they are still relatively low hour motors and should still have decent resale. If I do, I will sell the bracket as well.
I REALLY like the hermco that i put on my 18', so I was thinking of a hermco twin bracket and one of the big four stroke yamaha's. The f350 wouldn't outweigh the twin 200's, plus the hermco bracket would have better floatation than my currrent one. I have no idea what make it is, but it has a smaller offset than my hermco.
I'm just kicking around some ideas for cold weather. As always, any thoughts/ideas would be appreciated.

We just installed a new yammie F250 on a 23 with no bracket.

Optimal cruise is around 4200 RPM @ 30 - 32 mph getting 3.1 mpg. WOT is 45 - 47 depending on load. Planes easily with very little bow rise.

Food for thought............

personally, I would love to see what a 23 could do with the 350, but the f300 may be a better choice because of the lighter weight, probably cant go wrong with either.

I would go with a f300, I ran a 26 JB with 350 and really did not like it. Fuel burn was high at cruise, a Seacraft will do much better with the new light yammi 4s. Call Don and get his take, f3oo and full hermco would be nice..

Snook, you can search my build thread in march of 2009. I posted pics of the whole project. I love the bracket and performance on the 18'. I like the closed transom. The real shame is that i haven't run the 18' since i bought the 23'. I'll probably put her up for sale since I now have have two kids and the extra room on the 23' is nice.

Check out this post from another forum. It's a 23'er and the numbers are rather nice on his F300. They are not as nice as the legs on Sam's cuzin Amos's girl friend....the one with the sexy red bikini and "large curd fat"!!!

I have been researching doing a 4.2 300 also on a hermco bracket on my23 There is a pretty good weight difference between the 300 and 350.
From what I have read there is not much performance difference. The new 300 looks like a real nice engine. I have been seeing a lot of used 350 though.
There is a thread on THT classifieds for a shop in Florida selling 30" for what seems like a good price compared to the prices I have gotten.

The 350 is a V-8, I think, I also hear it's very heavy and really likes gas!! The V-6 300 sounds sweet. I guess it's just "cubic dollars" that will make the choice easy.
