fuel range in a 20

This is a pretty broad question but those of you with 20s what is your fuel range with 150 or what is your guess on my boat. It is 1978 20 sf with a 2001 merc efi 150. The boat has a 50 gallon gas tank. The reason I ask this question is becuase I will be finishing my boat in the next week and half,(hopefully) and I wont have time to really test my boat out before I have a fishing tournament that I am competiting in. If all goes as plans I will be able to splash the boat in the fsu lake and test it out but I wont be able to test the range.

you should be able to cruise at 2miles per gallon so 100 miles is probably a safe guess [img]/images/graemlins/confused.gif[/img] Are you fishing offshore? I would try and get out and do a test run asap good luck

This probably doesn't help a whole lot, but I think you'll be better 3+ mpg at cruising speed. If you're concerned then bring an extra jug along or buy a flow meter.

My old wellcraft v20 with a 200hp yamaha which was much much heavier than a 20ft seacraft would average 2.8 - 3.0 mpg @ 30mph : navman.

Remember that you can't use the total tank capacity in your equation. You probably have 45 usable gallons.

I'm no fan of guessing, and none of us have your exact setup (even if someone has a 20' with that engine, the two will suck fuel differently). So, for just a small amount of peace-of-mind, if you are concerned about it you might think about the five gallon jug like a previous post suggested.

I have a heavier setup than you with a t-top/75 gallon tank/all wood redo/ 4-stroke engine/ etc. and at 4,000rpm I get pretty decent mileage according to the Floscan unit, but without testing it, anything about your situation is merely a guess.

I can get over 3.5 mpg cruising an '02 carbed Merc 150 at 4000 on a 20' Grady White CC. My boat is a bit heavier than your 20' SeaCraft so on calm water, I would expect every bit of 3.75 mpg from your setup.

Yea I was trying to get a general idea, since I have never ran this set up before. I am gonna figure less than 3 miles per gallon becuase I wont be running the boat at cruising speed at all times and I dont know the motors' performance. Thanks for all the info.

Another comparison for you george....

Two summers ago, I ran approx. 30 miles at about 3000 RPM (twas a rough morning), trolled for about 7 hours at 6 kts, then ran about 25 miles back at 4000 as it had calmed down nicely. I covered about 112 miles on 43 gallons. My Navman told me I was drinking about 2 gal/hr at the 6 kts.

20 footer scepter with 135 merc carbed motor will get an easy 3 mpg at 3600 rpms. At least mine does. I have a dole fin no tabs. Hope this helps. Scotty.

I have 2003 20' Master angler with 150 Yamaha HPDI a 70 gallon tank and coffin box console. Last wednesday in a solid 2 foot chop on Long Island Sound I ran 2 hours at 28 mph. When I refilled the tank I had burned about 12 gallons of fuel.
