Jim,
The difference is in the running bottom. SC's have the variable deadrise (see the logo above), whereas the Albemarle has a traditional deep V. The advantage of the SC design is in how the "steps" lift the hull and provide an air cushion. Traditional deep V's have lifting strakes but don't create the same effect.

I don't know if you'd be interested but there's a nice 25 Seafari on sale at usedboats.com.

This boat is located on Martha's Vineyard. I took a look at it last September while on its mooring in Edgartown Harbor (I didn't get on it though). She appears to be in good shape, fairly recent power/outdrive, but the fuel capacity is very low - 55 gallons according to the ad.

They did make a 25 Seafari in the 70's although back then enough power was the biggest problem with the 25' deadrise, but it would eat some Gulf chop, had some divers in St Pete had one, bet it would be a great boat with a couple of these new OB's

Not all the 25 Seafari's were underpowered. I once managed a marina with a 25' Seafari docked there that had twin 225 hp OMC V8 sterndrives. The problem was that the sterndrives were the old OMC 800 stringer mounts. The owner claimed a top speed of about 50 mph for the boat.
In 1987 the boat sank in the Banana River near Cape Canaveral when the rubber gasket around one of the drives tore one day. (The owner said it took less than 10 minutes to go under completely.) I don't think they ever salvaged the boat as it was supposedly uninsured.
