VA Striper Rigs

Can anyone help me out with this....Several weeks ago, maybe more, I caught a glimpse of a tandem rig on a fishing show on ESPN where they were fishing for stripers in Virginia. Here's what it looked like, I think....

From a three way rig one leader of about 24" held a huge lead jig head of about 48 ounces with a rubber shad or pogy. The off of the other swivel ran a leader of about 36"-48" and they were trailing a live black eel. They were doing very well and it looked like a way to get some huge fish. SO........Has anyone used this and how have you done with it??? Have I described it right? I would like to try this in our area where they are some big fish right now.....

BTW - I really like the pics Steve put up on your boat, sweet layout. Is that console the optional, large console?

Did I see you steaming by Hardings beach going into the inside of Monomoy and South Beach this past Memorial day around 3:30? I could have sworn it was your boat?

I would tell you but......

I have a bunch of those rigs from our last trip to the chesapeake. HUGE good looking rigs, excactly as you describe.

Devils Fiddle and myself made a northern rendition and it produces now with live/fresh dead herring.

I have yet to try the raw chesapeake rigs here as of yet because herring seem to be the best way now and I am a beliver in: if it ain't broke don't fix it. When (if) it slows down I will try some of the chesapeake rigs. I have a sneeking suspicion they may be productive.

I am actuallly headed out to Chatham the weekend of the June 21'st. I would be more than happy to show you them. I will give you one for tips on a location of "hot" fishing spot other than the waters of Monomoy [img]images/icons/grin.gif[/img] Hehehe

You saw what we call a MoJo Trayder. Use them all the time and they run anywhere from 10 oz up tpo 60 oz's. We run a short lenth of leader usually 100 to 150 lb test, I like clear Ande off of one side of #3 three way and we will normally run what is locally called a parachute, which is similar to a MoJo but a lot lighter and usually fancier on the other side of the 3 way on a 10 ft leader. They are quite expensive running anywhere up to 25$ a bait, and I like the big Mojo's for weight and usually skip the Parachute. I normally fish 5 lines with no outriggers and will fish the MoJo rig on wire line down the ,middle.This is more than you asked for , I would be happy to tell you more if you like or ship you or put you into contact with someone who makes, sells distributes both. In fact , for the mojo you can take big inline leads and powder paint them , use big split rings and attach large hooks 12/0 to 16/0 single tied with some bucktail on them and thread a big chartuese rubber tail 9"and you have one.

TRAYDER: Just make sure you get your shots before coming to chatham, that time of year we have lot's of strange critters runnin around here. wouldn't want you to CATCH something. BOY could I tell you where to go[fishin that is]. It would be nice to shake your hand when you land in town that is if you get a min. to yourself...

wire...plugs...eels...flys...you don't have to go far....or maybe a few cod. I'll give you my phone # if your interested. AH got a boat or not?

John R: Thanks for the comments on the boat! The previous owner deserves all the credit, he really loved it and put a lot of $$$ and time into it. The console is the largest that was available at the time, apparently the Master Angler package or something like that.

SquidRig: That wasn't me on Memorial Day weekend. i was out on that day but we fished s.w. of Great Island off Hyannis. Caught a huge Black Sea Bass on a 7" Bomber trolled on the surface, go figure.
Some keeper bass and a few 7lb blues too.

Trayder: I'd be glad to show you a few spots that I like, no secrets really, just good spots that produce well. Steve is that man to see for the HOT spots tho, I'm begging him for his black book of #'s myself! You can email me when you are coming up, [email protected] and I'll tell you what I can at the time. I'd love to know how those rigs work around here.
