Quote:
Mark Hauptner of Ocean Master was co-driver with Carl in the `67 race from Haulover to Key West. He told me they ran trip Merc 110`s for the first time with the new 25 and they set a new OB record of 62 overall. This after losing an engine around Summerland. He said all 3 props fell off when they pulled her. Mark also said the blades were thrashed. Possibly from the washing machine in Haulover going out. Mark said many boats failed in the cut going out and it was a mess. I always wore #11 in sports when I could and I suspect the racers were no different. Racing puffers as a squid, we always used sail numbers. Cheers, GFS |
