Advice on repower...
Would like to hear comments people have on these engine choices.
I am working on restoring my 74 23' CC. i have purchased a Hermco bracket and have 2 pretty good deals on a couple etec's available. I would love to get some feedback on the which direction i should go. Engine 1: 2008 300HP Etec 150 hours engine only about 18 months warranty left Engine 2: 2007 250HP Etec 25 hours engine and some (not all) accesories rigging yes, controls, tach no, just warrantied in January so have over 2 years left on warranty The 250 is about 1K less in price than the 300.... I want to hear from anyone running etecs ecspecially on a 23' seacraft. Thanks for any help. LL |

Re: Advice on repower...
I'm not running an etec but the 300 has all the parts and pieces and you'll never regret the extra power when you need it.
Spend the 1K now and you won't ever have to second guess if you should have gone bigger, you can always use less throttle if you have enough juice. SOS |

Re: Advice on repower...
Find out WHO the warranty is with! On the earlier motors like mine (purchased in spring of '06), the warranties were with a 3rd party outfit. I've had zero problems personally, but I've heard some horror stories of that outfit going to extremes to avoid paying claims, like saying it only applies to "oil wetted" components, using water in bowl of a Racor water-separating filter as evidence of poor quality fuel to avoid paying for blown powerhead, etc.! Later motors are covered by BRP directly, who are very good about honoring warranty claims. If one of the warranties is with BRP, I'd say it was the better deal!
