Scupper Mods

Hey all , here are the beginnings of my scupper mods that I ran out of film before I completed.If anyone is interested in what I did, here it is. Here are all my disclaimers about leaves trash etc. laying in the bottom of the boat that I am fighting etc. I will add the completed versions later. Anyways the first thing I did after removing the old material and scuffing the inside of the hole was to duck tape the underside. You have to have a very good seal or else it will leak, it will all leak out too.



The next thing I did was to mix up the west system and add it in the hole via a syringe. Iused a lot of the filler to give it substance. I should have taped over the inside of the scupper , put a small hole in it and filled it up that way because the west expanded as you can see on the stbd side. Did not do this anywhere near as bad on the port side.



The next ting I did was drill outa new hole using a 1" paddle bit after first drilling a lot hole with a 1/4" bit. Due to space restrictions all drilling had to be done from the bottom/underside of the boat. Also the pilot hole will not go all the way thru. Since the hull flares out a little bit I eyeballed the center of the hole and on the best verticle plane I could "envision" I drilled that sucker out. Then I came back with the paddle wheel bit and did the same. This is the most critical part of he operation as I think is pretty obvious,lol

Here's the hole, notice the excess west system epoxy that I still have to get out of the well. I am planning on using a dremal tool for this as there is really not much room for anything else. I have noticed that the epoxy seems to "pop" off of gelcoat pretty good so we will see.



What I did next was to trial fit the expandable plug in the hole to make sure it would seal up.I went back 2 days ago and mixed up another small batch of west and using my finger put a thin coat around the inside of the hole starting outside ofthe boat first and then doing the inside. (Cause I dont have 6" fingers)Here it is with the plug installed-



After I dremal away the excess material and everything looks good I will probably finger touch up around the inside if it needs it.
I guess we will see how well it works in the near future. Pretty easy to do and Im not worried about it leaking- craig
