23' Tsunami -

I have a small area (6" x 6" ) on my bow that is delam'd due to a SS rail stanchion mount. Not structural but I want to correct it. I've epoxy potted all the bolts/screws on the boat except for the (2) stanchions forward of the anchor locker bulkhead - 'cause its so tight in there - and of course, one of the stanchions leaked into the core a bit. I own it !

The deck on the bow is cosmetically perfect and I hate to go through the top to remedy this. The alternative, is to remove ( cut ) the anchor bulkhead and hit it from below. I'd rather this but do not want to create more work regarding the anchor locker bulkhead.

Anyone ' been there, done that ? '

i recored mine from the inside but the bulkhead was removed

I only had a small piece to recore but I did it from above. May be some fairing work but with total fair and some sanding it won’t be hard to fix but paint gelcoat maybe something to consider. (Ps don’t use totalfair-epoxy based and gelcoat together). You’ll need a poly based fairing compound. Like bondo...

Removing bulkhead is easy - reinstalling and having it look right not so much... going from the top is easiest but I’d have to sand and re-do entire foredeck to have it match right.

Since the stanchions cover a decent size spot could you open up a 1-1/2" hole on top, clean it out, then use a pourable to fill flush to deck?

And with care you could enlarge the hole between the upper and lower surfaces by using a nail with a 90 degree bend or an alan wrench in an electric drill to remove additional material beyond Flexpat’s 1.5” dia hole

Thx for responses.

Doing the structural work from the top is easiest but lends itself to a lot of cosmetic work to match it all.

Doing the work from below is a hassle just because of the bulkhead. Other than that it would be easy and I'd have no cosmetic BS to deal with.

It's a conundrum...

I think I'm waiting to hear if someone has removed the bulkhead and reinstalled it without it being a hassle. And, how its done.

If not then I will go from the top. If that's the case, I'd find the area of delam, cut the skin off, dig out the bad wood, dry, re-core and glass. Been there done that... I've done it from the bottom too , but not with the limiting factor of that #@#%@$% bulkhead....
