Default Seacraft 20 re-power

I am currently in the process of re powering my 1971 20' seacraft. It has a Suzuki df-140 and was wondering if it was worth moving up to the 150. Does any one have expirence with this?

No. The 140 is at what i consider the max weight for good performance on a 20 hull.

The 150 weighs in at 475-485 and is just not worth the trade off.

Power to weight ratio of Zuke 140 is very good for a modern 4-s.
The 150 is not.

I agree with Gilley . . . the 20' hull was designed in the mid 60's for motors of 260-300 lbs. When you exceed that, it's hard to get it to plane at 12 mph or ride as well as those boats originally did! Your 140 is already over 400 lbs, which is about the practical limit for acceptable ride and handling on that hull unless you've moved the console, gas tank and batteries forward. If you want more power and mid-range torque with low noise, similar weight and slightly higher fuel burn consider the G1 E-Tec 150/175!
