eBay Purchase
Has anyone ever bought their Seacraft from a seller on eBay? I have never done this and I am to say the least a little skeptical. My gut is saying this is a scam, but I don't know. This is how the "TRANSACTION" would go down.Quoted from sellers email:"Let me explain you the process of this sale and afterwards you can decide if you want to go with it or not.
The boat is prepared for shipping and I'm not in town to handle the sale. I already paid the shipping and eBay's fees. I want to use eBay because I have done business through their services before and I was satisfied. I'm a power seller on eBay, I have a perfect feedback and we are 100% protected by eBay Vehicle Purchase Protection. You will have to make a deposit of $2,000 to eBay, the shipping will be started in 24 hours after your deposit is confirmed by eBay. You will receive the boat in 4-5 days with all the papers signed and notarized. From the moment it arrives at your address, you will have 5 days to test and inspect it. If it doesn't match my description or if you find anything wrong with it, eBay will refund your money in 3 working days and I will be in charge of the return shipping fees. eBay holds the money until you confirm that the boat is as described and I am sure that you are a genuine buyer and have the money to buy it. This way we we are both protected. I will create a listing on eBay for the boat only for you so you can buy it using the Buy it Now option. You will buy it directly from the eBay website. If you want to buy it, I will need your full name, shipping address and a phone number for the shipping. All the details regarding the payment will be provided by eBay after you click Buy it Now." What say you? |

I would NEVER buy a boat without a Visual, Mechanical and Marine Surveyor inspection. Regardless of what is in print....PERIOD !!!
Buyer Beware

Run, don't walk from that deal. By posting it here you knew it was funny business, so kudos for seeing that. Find a seller you can shake hands with and hand cash too. Have a safe weekend everyone!

I actually did buy my boat on ebay ... but it was nothing like this. It was sold as-is where is. After winning the auction I sent a refundable deposit and drove down to MD for a sea-trial before paying for the boat in cash and trailering it home. It worked out great. I wouldn't do it with these terms though. My purchase also used a 3rd party reseller to list the boat on eBay and there were extensive questions and answers before the bidding ended.

I bought my 2001 21 sc on eBay. Great experience. I did talk to the guy a lot by phone. He was in Connecticut and I am in South Carolina. Did it all through PayPal by credit card for security reasons. Also did uship. People bid on th delivery and you choose. Had it delivered from Connecticut to sc in 5 days for $500. That was back when gas was over $4 a gallon. If you can't talk to the guy by phone and get a good feel for it, walk away. The prepaid ship stuff is a big piece of the scam.
