Default Get rid of aft fish box in deck or not?

Restoring '85 Seacraft CC. Deck had soft spots and has been cut out.

The rear fish box has always bothered me, because it fills up with the water when it rains, and it can not be drained unless I am up on plane or out of the water and pull the plug.

Until went to ball scuppers, the fish box would also fill up with water as water came back through the scuppers - the ball scuppers are not pretty, but they work very well.

Question: Should I have the box cut out and do away with it when deck of boat is replaced or can anyone suggest modifications to the rear fish box that would keep water out?

Surely others have had this same problem. Would be nice to have a rear fish box.

Any and all advice appreciated.

Thank you-
