Teak on 89 SC- Please Help
The teak on the bow of my 89 is screwed and glued on. How have some of you removed the teak for refurbishing without breaking it?
Thanks, Nick |

Re: Teak on 89 SC- Please Help
Nick,
The teak on my `89 was not glued on. Is it varnish maybe? Big FYI here, The fine riggers at tracker mounted the rod holders with willy nilly screw lengths and must be tagged and bagged. I almost put one through the hull as I misread the #. My mind saved me. First time ever! Cheers, GFS |

Re: Teak on 89 SC- Please Help
The teak on my 88 was screwed in place with a thin layer of what looked like RTV applied. I took the long thin strips off carefully, using a putty knife to release the RTV and support the back of the teak as I eased it off the fiberglass. I only used screws to re-attach.

Re: Teak on 89 SC- Please Help
use a 1" flexible scraper (from the paint section) and tap it in one corner at a time. then gently twist. i would be willing to bet its varnish like the others said. mine was cracked when i went to replace it and i wound up building a custom closable hatch in its place but it came out easy that way. be gentle, that wood has seen a lot of sun and is brittle as can be. if it is like mine, they rabbeted out a huge chunk to turn the corner, thats where it will want to crack...
