Re: Tuna Time on the 409
NICE JOB!
I tried for them a couple of times this summer. When the wind would cooperate, the fish wouldn't. |

Re: Tuna Time on the 409
Hi Tucker
Tuna fishing on the humps is kind of like asking out a beautiful model when you look like a nerd. They have a very narrow band of what is expectable in their eye. You got to fish live bait and have enough to chunk a few free bees out on every drift. Got to fish between 7-10:30 AM just west of the 409 where the birds are. Use 30 lbs leader and a 4 o hook and have 4-6 lines out. I also use a chum bag. When the current gets you on top of the 409 its time to reel up and do it again. We had one triple and a coupe double fish hookups this trip. We also did some deep dropping in 750 ft and got a couple of golden tiles. All in all it was a good day fishing But it always could be a little bit better. I think I will do it again in 3-4 weeks from now. The temperature was really hot and I cant take the heat as good as I use too. FellowShip . Just for the Grins Official 23 SF Antique Classic SeaCraft Owner |

Re: Tuna Time on the 409
Next summer I'll have to have you stop by the house for a few days so we can do some fishing. I don't know the dates but there will be a four day weekend in Nov I'll be in the Keys. If it fits in both our schedules maybe we can connect then.

Re: Tuna Time on the 409
Hi Tucker:
November is a fantastic month for fishing in the Middle Keys usually a lot of Sails, Muttons just off the reef during those months. Wind can be a problem, give me a heads us when you are coming in maybe we can get a few days in. FellowShip . Just for the Grins Official 23 SF Antique Classic SeaCraft Owner |

Re: Tuna Time on the 409
Hi Capt Chuck:
Hows things up in Stuart? Now if I remember correctly I called you 2 or 3 times and you were just too busy doing God knows whatever to fit me into you schedule. I have tried a couple daytime Sword fishing trips with no hookups. Then I started doing some deep dropping trips for grouper and yellow eye snapper in 1000 foot off South Miami with no success either still looking for the honey hole. Its really hot and a lot of the fishing has cooled off because of the water temp at least on the reef. It doesnt effect deep dwellers or Blackfin Tuna but it really does fry my brains. Thank God for fresh water wash downs I ended up spraying myself off 3-4 times on this tuna trip. September starts cooling off some and maybe in a week or two we could to a afternoon daytime and early evening night time Swordfish trip. I will give you a call. FellowShip . Just for the Grins |

Got lucky on the 409 humps back in July, no other boats just me, birds and lots of fish. Normally when there are working birds at the humps most every boat in Islamorada to Duck Key is there. |
