can someone give me some info on removing afuel tank out of my 87 scepter. big tank 120 gal very tight fit

That is a major project. I went through it last year. It is almost impossible to get the tank out in one piece. I have a 1989 23 WA and it has 2 deck places. Both have to come out. If yours is like mine, the opening will be about one inch narrower than the width of the tank. I had to cut 1/2 inch off each side of the deck where the panel sits. Then after getting the tank completely empty of fuel and maybe flushing it with water to eliminate the fumes, you need to free up the tank from the foam and removing the screws holding it down if they are still in place. My tank was like 120 inches long and would not come out in one piece so had to use a saw zall to cut about 28-30 inches off. The I was able to use a come-along to lift it out. Hope this helps. I did replace with only a 75 gallon tank as the new 4 stroke engines are so much more economical than the old 2 stroke outboards. I am assuming you have an outboard?????????????

yes on the o.b. 250 e tech i to was thinking of a smaller tank 90 gal? thinking of prying tank from bottom to brake the foam losse? floor is solid hate to trim the flange but tank is bigger than the opening.

I removed the fuel sending unit and was able to get a hook on a piece of metal turned sideways and used a come-along from a rafter in my pole barn, worked great for me.

Someone used a pressure washer to blast the foam out. Thought that was a good idea, if a bit messy.

I remember!! "Lt Dan" used an electric chain saw to remove his tank. I think "John R" wrote a limerick about the ordeal?

tanxs guys like the pipe in the sender hole but think ill use the excavator to lift the tank. far as sawing or blasting there less than 1/4 of an inch between the stringers.hope it just brake loose.

I used an Excavator too, after I cut through the foam w/ a skinny hand saw.



Check out the hole about the size of a quarter on the side where it was "foamed" in........bad idea.

tank is out luckey me not much foam and verry dry. took 3hr and 4 beers but w/ little triming and pry she pop right out
