Default Bass Blitz

Sometimes it is nice to be lucky.

I went out for a solo bass trip Saturday evening and other than easily netting some bunker, had no action whatsoever.

Around 6:30 at the rocks I decided to head home as I had a decent run ahead of me around the hook back to the Navesink.

On the way in I came upon what almost looked like sharks on a pod of bunker, huge explosions. No sharks, just huge bass. 30-40lbers. One of the more amazing things I have seen.

Even better, there wasn't another boat within 2 miles of me.

I caught quite a few on a yellow pencil popper, then when they would go down I would hook up almost instantly on a live bunker.

The first fish was over 48" and so full of bunker it looked like it would pop. I'm about 95% C&R so all fish were revived and released.

Just an amazing night that I lucked into on my ride in.

It is tough to take pictures when you are alone, but I tried. Also I shot some video of the blitz.

Nice find!
We had a day like that up here (martha's Vineyard) a few weeks ago, but with much smaller fish.
So much fun to find a bunch of bass on top!

Thanks! It is rare here in NJ to have some fish all to yourself, especially on a weekend!

Got this one last night after work on a bunker.

Only problem was it bit me on the hand when I was reviving it hard enough to draw blood... Payback!

Beasts! We had em good on sand eels in Montauk last weekend, but no big girls yet-maybe this next moon will push em east.

I'm thinking you're exactly right. They are thinning out down here so I'd keep a look out!

Good luck. There are still some nice ones down here. A 58 was weighed in yesterday.

I'm taking advantage of the nice weather and going sharking/bluefin scouting tomorrow.
