Default 23 inboard wiring

I am getting ready to rip into the mess the previous owner left in my boat and I have a question.

There is a pair of 50 amp breakers mounted to the engine as part of the original harness that have been hacked, spliced, and basically butchered.

Does anyone know what the original intent of these was?
Someone smarter than me put them on there, but I can't figure it out.

Thanks for any help.
Chris

could be charging system protection, one of them may even have a receiver and a dangling connector somewhere. Make sure all the terminals are clean and the connections are tight at the alternator and the batteries. might have had fusing for each battery bank. good luck
