Pettit Easypoxy
Pettit's off white is a very close match to the color of my '76 20SF. Only a couple of hits using the search feature, so I was wondering if forum members are using it, brush, spray, etc., and are there pro's and con's with the product?

Re: Pettit Easypoxy
I used it on my other boat and it worked great, I used small foam rollers. Although the interior was pretty uneven so not sure how it would work on a big surface but should be OK.

Re: Pettit Easypoxy
I used it on the deck and cockpit of mine. I went with it because it is a single part and safer to spray, since I didn't have an air supplied respirator or very good ventilation.
It came out good and has held up pretty well, but it is not as tough as a 2 part. |

Re: Pettit Easypoxy
The boat looks great, I don't care if you painted it with childrens finger paint it came out beautiful. I can say one thing about 2 part paint though, I bought some Acrylic Polyurethane Enamel on e-bay and tried a small section on a piece of plastic, and I can't scrape it off, it is amazing stuff. I think it is similar to Signature finish, so that stuff must last a long while. My neighbor will be painting his boat with Signature finish, so I will se how it is first hand. I am not ready to paint yet, I plan on doing the bottom hull with paint. and sides with good old fashioned Gelcoat.

Re: Pettit Easypoxy
You guy's must not be very picky about your paint jobs?
Most boat's can pass the 4ft test, but will it pass the 6in test? Easypoxy is nothing more than a Glorfied Alkyd Enamel. It's the last paint I'd pick to paint a boat. It takes the same amount of prep work to put cheap paint or expensive paint on a boat. The difference is about 2yrs compared to 10yrs of durability |

Re: Pettit Easypoxy
i think most of us are pretty picky about both the paint we use and the way our boats look.- i think that was kind of a shitty thing to write. I hope that was not the way you intended to come across. easypoxy worked well for my application, back of my transom and deck- i guess time will tell. my transom gets tons of abuse from exhaust gas and being in the water 24/7/345 anyway so nobody is normally giving it a 4" test, but she looks sweet from a couple of feet away standing on the pier.( and it looks 5000 times better than it did before) now the deck of course takes tons of abuse so time will tell again. wartman do you have experience with it only lasting you a couple of years? i call it OQE (objective quality evidence)i know interlux and alwgrip off white's color is not very close to the gelcoat, and they were my original choice. I think Bills boat above came out really sweet using the paint and I dont think you can argue with the pix of his beautiful seacraft.

Re: Pettit Easypoxy
OK maybe I was a little over the top with that statement, but there are far superior finishs than EasyPoxy.
The name itself piss's me off. There is NO epoxy in it. You don't even want to paint a boat with Epoxy paint. The UV ray's will make it chalk. If it's something like a bilge or inside a cuddy epoxy paint is great. No UV rays hitting it. A Epoxy primer is different. It's covered by a topcoat of paint and has superior color hold out, adhesion and waterproofness. |
