Default GPS/Plotter question for Yacht Jim

Hello Jim. Considering Garmin 192C reman. (same warranty, correct?). SeaCraft does not go offshore as much as I would like anymore, and would like a unit that I could swap head back and forth from 15' Whaler. I see that the 188C is less expensive but requires the Blue Chip. I am very computer challenged and would like the most user friendly unit available. Would you recommend waiting for the next model to come out? Not sure of best route to cover both boats. Any insight would be appreciated. Vezo, Part II.

There are no reman'd 192C's that I am aware of. We do have some reman'd 182C's. Does your boat have a hard top? If only a canvas top or no top at all you will be OK with an internal antenna. The Garmin 192C w/internal antenna and a second mounting station would be ideal. This unit has built in cartography so you will never need to buy a chip for charts. Just turn it on and go wherever you are.

You mentioned the 182C and 188C. The 188C is also a Fishfinder and only comes with an external antenna. I don't think that is what you want. The 182C will cost just about as much as the 192C once you add a chart chip. Plus the 182C is dicontinued, but there are still a few available.

If the 192C is within your budge go for it.

Thanks Jim. Maybe what I was looking at was a new 192C, and the price had come down (649.00?) I thought they were more expensive originally. While trying to find one to "play" with at BPS, I was told that they had not purchased the 192C because something better would be introduced sometime this spring. My 20 MA does not have a T-Top. Thanks.

Also, if you have time, could you estimate the cost of required equipment to install on each boat so that I could simply swap? No hurry. Thanks again. Vezo Part II.
