Adding fuel senders
Hi everyone - stumbled on this site, and it sounds like y'all know your SeaCrafts...!
I've got a 23' with 4 fill-ups (2 center tanks and 2 aft), but no fuel senders. Wondering if anyone knows how to add them? I'm hoping to put in tempos and rig them to the fuel gauges. any suggestions appreciated! |

Re: Adding fuel senders
BG:
First off welcome aboard. You must have an i/o or i/b to have that many tanks. did they come with the boat? sounds like they would have to be pulled out ,drained, and aired dry before you get near them to drill holes. Then would have to vac out the fileing after that.don't want those little pcs. of metal getting sucked up in your fuel line. you maybe better off taking them somewhere to have it done.may not be a do it yourself project....any pic's of your boat If y0u wait a bit hermco. may jump in here and help out with the best way to do something like that. best o luck w/your project...steve |

Re: Adding fuel senders
Thanks Steve! yeah, the tanks came w/the boat - twin outboards but on a bracket, I'll try & post pix. pretty good fuel capacity but I want to be able to keep track.
it does seem like a pretty big undertaking though... I'd like to do it myself if possible, but it might be too much of a headache. I figure you guys can tell me how to do it, if anyone can! |

Re: Adding fuel senders
Barnacle girl, welcome to the site!! What year is your boat???? Mine has two aft tanks as well but has sending units with window cover things over the sending units themselves. Reason I ask is you might have places for them in those aft tanks and just dont realize it??I cant imagine seacraraft or anyone else for that matter putting in tanks without them. Are they 55 gallon tanks??? If so then they are the same as mine and the units are approx 4 ft forward from the transom. Good luck, Craig

Re: Adding fuel senders
HA BARNICLEGIRL
I WOULD GO ANOTHER WAY ALL TOGETHER SOUNDS LIKE LOTS OF WORK TO PUT 4 SENDING UNITS IN FOUR TANKS. HOW ABOUT BUYING ONE FUEL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM THAT TELLS YOU HOW MANY GAL. YOU BURN AND INSTALL IT AFTER THE GAS / WATER FILTER AND BEFORE THE MOTOR. THAT WILL TELL YOU HOW MANY GAL PER HR, MILES PER GAL, AND GAL USED PER TRIP WILL GIVE YOU LOTS MORE INFO AND JUST ONE CUT THROUGH THE FUEL HOSE FOR THE TRANSDUCER AND A GAGE. PLUS ABOUT $200.00 STANDARD FF41 I BOUGHT ONE. FELLOW-SHIP |

Re: Adding fuel senders
Thanks for the welcome! Yeah it made no sense to me either, no senders - if there's a place in the tanks for them it's news to me - good news! I'll check it out, sounds like it'd save a lot of work...
the boat's an '84. the center tanks are 55 gallons, the afts are 25. and the previous owner said he used about 5 gallons/hour trolling... I'm trying to get my ducks in a row for offshore. -BG |
