replacing stringers and deck
i am soon to be cutting off the entire deck and removing stringers and transom. i got screwed on this boat being the first one i bought and didnt know what to look for before i bought it.
so i felt a soft spot towards the front of the boat right infront of the center console and sure enough i cut it out and the stringers were so rotten they almost looked like mud. so now i am trying to figure out the process of rebuilding this boat. i am trying to find out if i can do all this work while the boat is on the trailer. and also what to do first. remove and replace the transom first or the stringers. thanks for all the input and help that yall will be giving me in advance and i will post more pics as i get ready to do this project. would it be better just to have a professional do this? i do consider myself above average in handyman work.. thanks |

is this a seacraft? most SC have foam filled trapezoid fiberglass stringers.

If it's the lapstrake "Savage" he originally posted pictures of, it's definitely NOT a SeaCraft. Very few boats of 1960-70's vintage had glass stringers!

yes it is the original picture of the 1980 lapstrake savage i had posted..the stringers are only wood, looks like maybe a little bit of fiberglass skin but i just pulled the wood out of the skin...what wood was left anyways..it was completely roten..

dang so harsh. lolol could i at least sell the motor its a rebuilt johnson 150 1983... or is that junk also.. what would it be worth? i would love to find a seacraft to restore but dont have a ton of cash..
and are yall serious about not restoring it? thanks |

junk it,get a csc hull,it's the only one worth the time/money/blood /sweat/tears and glass filled lungs neccessary to rebuild from stringers up.Then swap your gear from that hull.I know where a rebuilt 20' SF hull is right now for 1500-ish.The cost is totally prohibitive if the love isn't there first,man.I know that is not what you want to hear at all,but accepting this mistake in the short term and getting on the path really want to be on will be the the cheapest,easiest,least heartbreaking option.If we run cross paths,i'll buy you a frosty cold one to ease the pain

I agree, its a big big job. Its got to be THE boat for you in order to warrant the work/money. For a complete rebuild (new stringers/transom/sole) your going to have a minimum of $2500 in materials to do it right.
