Default Repower

Hello all- I'm thinking about repowering at the end of the season- having some issues with my Optimax 200 with 650 hrs. on it. Nothing serious, but getting the itch. I'm considering going 4-stroke Yamaha but due to weight considerations I'm told I would have to downsize to a 150 Yami at 475 lbs. vs the 200 Yami at almost 600 lbs.- my current Opti is 500 lbs. and the boat (a 2000 SC 21) is already ass-heavy so adding another 100 lbs. is not something I want to do- my question is will this boat be underpowered with the 150? Opinions??

probably not underpowered but you wont be happy with the performance. why not go a little further and close the transom and bracket a 225 opti on there?

I recently repowered with a 2 Stroke Yamaha 250 since my 23 needed a little more power.
I too was concerned with weight and I am very happy. It is quite enough for me and has plenty of power.

My 2005 Merc Opti 225 is forsale if interested please PM me. It has 4 hours since rebuild.

I'll go with what Ryan says, not underpowered, but a whole different animal, two different boats, all depends on how you use it and what you excpect. I have done both.

PoJ, I have a 2003 21' with a 200 Merc EFI. I don't think you would want any less HP. I think a 150 would be underpowered. There is a charter captain in Morehead City, NC who put a 200 Suzuki on his 21 recently and seemed to be extremely pleased. His boat is Old Yeller and I think his name is Danny Adams. If you could talk with him he could probably give you some insight. Thought this might help. Good luck. Here is his web site.http://oldyellerguideservice.com/captain.htm

what year is your SeaCraft? How long have you had it? I see 3 or 4 SC's out and around Squan. There is a beautiful 23 inboard "Moondancer" that I love.
