Question on repower
I'm looking into a early 90's 225 evinrude
I'm considering that it's a 20 inch shaft and pricing. I would like a engine I can use till the budgets get better I would love some opinions as to power/weight of engine and what would be a decent price to purchase and any thing else to look at. Thanks |

It's hard to say what you should pay. Older COMPLETE running ready to rig outboards can bring a premium sometimes, take a look at some of the prices to repair common outboard problems and it makes sense. I can say that those model motors were pretty well designed, powerful, heavier motors. If you are going to do the bracket I would maybe look for an older Merc. of the same horsepower with 25" shaft. Or you could try to find a 150/175 Johnson/Evinrude through the nineties....they had a great power to weight ratio and should be little cheaper than the 200/225.

Well the idea on this engine would be to not go with the bracket for now.
I would then see when the budget would allow to 1st buy the bracket this allows time to look and get a good deal and then look for an engine. I would love a mid 2000 Merc 200 EFI or Yamaha 200 since I think an E-Tech are too new for getting a graet price. |

You really don't need that much power on your boat, although thinking about it makes me grin. You're boat would be more than adequate with a v4 looper johnyrude, but a v6 yami, or a small v6 johnson/evinrude would definitely feel perfect for the boat....all those motors are fairly dime a dozen especially the v4 looper those things can be cheap... under a $1000 sometimes well under... Who can tell what anything should cost in this horrible economy were having. Seems like things are selling for 1/3 the price. I just looked at a solid 21' Mako DV no motor rigged for an OMC on an Aluminum I-beam trailer for my buddy that he got for $700.

Yes I know that I could get away with a 130-140 but I lover the extra that you get with a 200 plus engine
And you know what happens 3 fat freinds with a bunch of crap to eat and fish with and you start slowing down And if you go with a t top even more and waht the heck its only a few dollars more |

You need V6 power as an owner of said boat - a 150 will work but I'm desparatly trying to fix my 200 instead of going to a 150. I have found a very nice 150 Mariner that I know can be purchased right, needs paint on the cowling but so does mine LOL. My powerhead comes a part tomorrow and I will know more, that 150 would be just fine if on a budget and its a V6 - its up here though but if you can get it for like 1200 or so it becomes an easy drive - its an 88 carbed but low hrs and I have people that can go through it before you come and check everything. remind me if you here from me soon - I may take myself and will know within days

OK looks like everything is fine inside mine a set of pistons and a bore job and I'm back. So you can have that 150 mariner if you like, its been in my buddy's showroom for a yr or so on consignment. Its an 88 carbed motor thats looks nice and clean inside but I would have painted cowel and mid myself. It's the same guy that 224466 bought his new 150 Johnson from and can do all the checks on the motor before you drive up. Its American Marine and the guy to talk to is Mario ( sweet 23 w/250 Rude) 727 938 9796. Had I not rebuilt mine, pretty sure I would have bought that for say 1200 - he was asking 2K but.....

BigShrimpin... which ones are the o-ring head 200 EFI's? Are they certain years? Do the rings fail or something?
