having engine trouble???? suzuki DT 115 outboard.
Hello i was asking all my friends around here and can't find any help !!! so i figured I'd ask the guys at classicseacraft.com !! SO i finally got my got my outboard running this weekend. After cleaning out a bunch of junk out of the fuel vapor seperator she was flowing gas good and started. Then from in front of the throttle body right before the flap that goes across to let air in or keep out there's a little 1/8 hole and it's spitting gas out of it. Actually it's pissing it out of it. It seemed to me to not do it right away but after about 25-30 seconds of running the engine?????? I didn't know if it was a pressure release to send gas out of and stall the engine or what????? I've been looking around online but havn't had any luck. SO any advice would help !!!! thanks!!!

If the boats been sitting I would not run it until the carbs have pulled off and cleaned.

Re: having engine trouble???? suzuki DT 115 outboard.
It's flooding, probably due to dirty needle valve/float valve. The carbs need to be carefully rebuilt. It's an easy job, just requires patience and care.
As is, it's a serious fire hazard. Old Merc inline 6 motors with distrubuters were famous for flooding, dumping fuel when tilted up, and then igniting when next started. Don't turn your motor into a barbeque, clean the carbs.

Re: having engine trouble???? suzuki DT 115 outboard.
since the first post stated that there is a throttle body the there wouldnt be any needles or seats used on carbs... there is in enrichner (primer) that is usually located on the engine side of the butterfly... that helps the intitial start... instead or choking(cutting off air to richin mixture for easier start) fuel injection just injects more fuel to richin mixture... usually the piss hole should be shooting inside the engine

nuthinfancy said, inter alia
Quote:
Every carburetor has a throttle body. It's where the slide or butterfly is located. Open the throttle, the slide goes up or the butterfly swings open. The fact that is interrupts, or "throttles" the intake venturi is what makes it a throttle body. In throttle body fuel injection , the fuel is sprayed into the airflow downstream of, or after the throttle body without the need for an air venturi to atomize the fuel, as that's a function of the injector. This is even though many TBFI engines have a throttle body venturi anyway, to further atomize fuel, and to enable the engine to run even if the injector does not spray a fine mist because of dirt in the injector. In a carburetor throttle body, the fuel is pulled into the throttle body by manifold vacuum and/or pumped in mechanically just before or in the venturi, with the venturi performing the function of atomizing the fuel for good combustion.

Re: having engine trouble???? suzuki DT 115 outboard.
Close but thats the problem it's not on the inside (engine) side of the butterfly it's on the outside and fuel is not supposed to come out of it normally. and i dont' think it's a flooding thing cause it doesn't start coming out until the engine is run for about 30 seconds and it is a fuel injected engine. I will post some pictures up of what it looks like.

Re: having engine trouble???? suzuki DT 115 outboard.
fr. frank i understand your philosophy but throttle body + vapor seperator = fuel injection... i just used clues in the original post to figure out whether it is carbed or injected... i mess with engines on a daily basis, but this one has me scratching my head...
